Nicolas Sarkozy’s second wife, Cécillia, did not want to be France’s First Lady, which she demonstated more than clearly through her behaviour. She did not vote, rejected to hold her husband’s hand in public and simulated an angina so she could go shopping with friends instead of having dinner with George W. Bush. Ultimately, she filed for divorce in 2007 and turned her husband into the first French President that went through a divorce during his term.
But Sarkozy knows how to enjoy himself and was not single for long. In early 2008 he met Carla Bruni, an ex-model and singer, and married her just two months after their first encounter. Bruni accompanies her husband to every event and it seems like she can adapt to her new role as First Lady. Unfortunatelly, the more famous you are the more controversial facts about your past are appearing. For example a nude shot Bruni had made in 1993.
Not only was an original print auctioned off publicly in New York in April this year. But a company used the image for a PR campaign and sold bags with the nude First Lady printed on them. Of course, as a President of a country with nuclear power you cannot let everyone in your country run around with bags showing a nude picture of your wife. So, Sarkozy sued the company and now all bags had to be taken out of the shelves and burned. Whether the French President is really entitled to his damage claim of 160.000 Euro is left to be decided by a court.
